Past Prairie Dachshund Club Conformation Events

Conformation is a judged canine sport overseen by the Canadian Kennel Club, focused on evaluating purebred dogs against the official standard for their breed. In the ring, Dachshunds are examined by accredited judges for correct structure, sound movement, stable temperament, and overall quality, both while standing and in motion. Competition begins at the breed and variety level, with top dogs progressing through the Hound Group and, ultimately, competing for Best in Show. The purpose of conformation showing is to recognize Dachshunds that best exemplify the breed’s ideal characteristics and are well suited to preserve and improve the breed for future generations.

Past Prairie Dachshund Club Scent Trials / Scent Detection

Scent Detection is a positive, competitive canine sport that tests a dog’s natural ability to locate specific target odors—such as birch, anise, clove, pine, or wintergreen—in container, interior, and exterior searches. Governed by Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) rules, the sport emphasizes teamwork, with the dog clearly communicating when a scent is found. Open to all breeds and experience levels, teams progress through increasingly complex classes while earning qualifying scores toward titles.
